Summary of Position Function
The Family Clinical Specialist serves as an extension of the clinical services provided to children and youth in treatment services. This individual provides psychoeducation to parents/guardians/other caretakers who are involved in the treatment of the youth. The Family Clinical Specialist provides education to caretakers on behavior modification, clinical interventions, and other supports the caretakers can perform in the home to support the goals of the youth and family. These services can be provided to an individual family with/without the child. The staff works in coordination with the primary clinician and the multidisciplinary team of the youth to teach the caretaker skills to supplement what the youth is developing in treatment. Performs related tasks as required.
Education Requirements
- Minimum requirement of high school diploma or GED
- Master’s Degree preferred commensurate with required licensing
- Educational qualifications must match regulatory requirements
Experience
- Experience must match regulatory requirements
- Preferred: One (1) year experience in Human Services working with a population of individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) or Substance Use Disorder (SUD)
Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts individual sessions with the identified family/caretaker of the youth to develop interventions and skills that can be applied in the home to support the goals in treatment
- Provides psychoeducation to the identified family/caretaker to support their understanding of the symptoms and behaviors the youth is experiencing
- Provides multi-family/collateral groups to provide psychoeducation and clinical intervention to support the goals of treatment for the youth
- Provides support and education through modeling with the identified family/caretaker and youth in joint sessions, as needed
- Coordinates care directly with the youth’s treatment team, including the clinician and psychiatrist/NP
- Directs skills and interventions that link directly to the skills the youth is developing in treatment
- Provides psychoeducation about best practices for monitoring medications and safe storage of medications in the home
- Provides psychoeducation about the family/caretaker’s role in the management of risk and safety for youth
- Coordinates services with other staff and other agencies
- Prepares reports, maintains clinical files, participates in training and provides statistical materials
- Assures that advocacy, linking, expediting and related activities are carried out as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Demonstrates ability to effectively use technology and appropriate use of support
- Follows Agency policies and procedures
- Completes yearly update trainings
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Must possess one of the following:
- Credentialing as a Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor and five (5) years experience
- Licensure as a Social Worker and two (2) years experience
- Certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor and two (2) years experience
- Limited Permit or Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor and two (2) years experience
