Bob Cannata

Vice President of Community Based Programs and Services

B.A.

in Human Services; Empire State College;

Masters Degree

in Social Work; SUNYAB, NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

I have been working in Human Service related roles since 1980, and my experiences include: crisis work, runaway youth, criminal justice populations, persons with developmental disabilities, care management, impaired drivers, substance users, and persons with mental illnesses. I have taken on various supervisory, management, administrative, and teaching roles throughout my career as I truly value contributing to the professional development of others and helping promote success for the organizations I have been a part of.

How long have you been working at Spectrum?

I worked for Spectrum for 14 years; from 1986 until 2000, and then I returned in November 2017.

What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishment?

I have strived for excellence throughout my career, and I’m honored to have earned the confidence of the Spectrum Team in bringing me back to Spectrum as a Vice President. I started my clinical career as an Alcoholism Counselor with Spectrum and I look back on this path back to Spectrum with much appreciation for the Spectrum staff throughout the years who have contributed to my development as a professional.

What is your favorite part about working at Spectrum?

The comradery between the staff members and everyone’s true passion for ensuring that our clients are heard, respected and encouraged to pursue their recovery as they see it. I have been so impressed with the extraordinary efforts everyone makes to “get it right” as we interact with our clients and various community partners.

Where is your favorite place to go in Buffalo?

I love being near the water: the Buffalo River, Lake Erie shoreline, anywhere I can ride my bicycle to.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

My wife and I love to spend time with our three adult children and three grandchildren who live just a few blocks away from us.  I have a very large extended family and I have spent considerable time gathering information on our various family trees and history. I enjoy taking 20-30 mile bicycle rides with my wife and friends and exploring new trails.
