Summary of Position Function
*Position is funded until June 2021 with the possibility of being extended a few months*
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Crisis Counseling Program/Project Hope, the Crisis Counselor helps link individuals to needed community-based resources and provide active supportive listening. Provides services of linkage, advocate, monitor, and evaluate.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma
Experience
- One to three years in Mental Health or Human Services setting dependent on certification/education is preferred
Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Knowledge and demonstration of agency core values in day-to-day activities
- Works with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, emotional support, individual and group crisis counseling, public education, and referrals when needed.
- Is synonymous with term “outreach worker.”
- Represents program in the community and networks with other agencies and partners to ensure needs of survivors are met.
- Provides presentations to community groups on disaster reactions, coping skills, stress management, and the CCP.
- May use the mobile application to complete data forms.
- Advocates on behalf of the client to ensure needed services are obtained
- Provides Service Referral, Linkage, and Related Activities
- Utilizes Motivational Interviewing techniques to increase the likelihood of engagement
- Utilizes supportive, active listening skills
- Individual Crisis Counseling

- Performs other duties as assigned
- Frequent or occasional driving of personal vehicle for purpose of transporting clients in the community and/or site visits (client or work related)
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
- One – three years experience in Physical Health, Behavioral Health or Human Services setting or Degree or Certification in Human Services Program is preferred
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and computer software. Familiar with all Microsoft products
- Training in Motivational Interviewing and Person Centered Planning to be completed within three months of hire
