Impaired Drivers Program
If your license or privilege to drive in New York State is suspended or revoked because of an alcohol or drug-related driving conviction, you may need to complete an impaired driver’s evaluation and/or treatment by a New York State Office of Addiction Services and Support (OASAS)-approved provider.
This program is available is at the Southtowns Counseling Center and Wyoming County Counseling Center.
What does the program offer?
- Assessment and treatment meet NYS DMV requirements.
- Assessments are completed by licensed clinicians who have the knowledge and understanding of Impaired Drivers Assessments.
- Specialized treatment to fit your individual needs, which includes an evidence-based group for reducing DUI recidivism.
What is required of me for the assessment?
- Signed consent giving us permission to input your license number and treatment recommendations into the impaired driver’s system.
- Copy of your arrest report or “Bill of particulars”—if you don’t have a copy with you, you should be able to obtain it from the arresting town/city station.
- Your Driving Abstract. The Impaired Driver System (IDS) is our way to communicate with both the NYS DMV and NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports to certify that ourclients have met the requirements to be relicensed. At your first intake appointment, you will sign a consent to allow us access this database. Your information will be uploaded tothe database upon your first visit, completion of assessment, admission to program and discharge from the program.
Throughout the program, you will provide:
- Urine tox screens
- Two or three collateral contacts: who can be an employer, family, or friends who can provide information to support a better clinical determination when completing an assessment. No paths to recovery are the same. Our experienced and caring professionals take a dynamic approach to meet your needs using comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment programs. Together we’ll achieve your goals and satisfy requirements for their impaired driver’s offense.
