Better Together: Find Joy in the Midst of Winter

It’s easy to walk down the street today and compare yourself to every person you meet. Have you ever found your self wondering, when will I be happy with a beautiful family like theirs? Or when will I be able to afford a nice car like them?

When will I be successful?

Let’s be honest, we’ve all probably had one of those thoughts today.

It’s easy to think of happiness as something that’s based on your outward circumstances, but did you know that scientifically some of the happiest people in the world live in impoverished nations? While most of the world’s population described as ‘discontent’ is surrounded by fame and fortune?

Merriam-Webster defines happiness as ‘A state of well-being and contentment; joy.’

It seems to us that happiness is a choice that we can make, today! (Yes, even in the middle of winter!)

Recently it’s been found that the happiest people in the world are the ones with the strongest social connections.

Simply put, we’re better together!

How do you start building those meaningful relationships around you? We know it can be challenging to step out, but we believe with the right tools and help you can overcome anything! Here are a few ideas:

Play a sport.

They’re not just for kids! In recent years, niche sporting clubs and gyms have been popping up all over the country- with a huge success rate. Why? Because people love being together! Being on a team is a natural community builder. Try looking up an adult softball league or rock climbing gym in your area! No experience is necessary, most people join just to have something fun to look forward to.

Host a board game or movie night.

Let the community come to you! Deep down, every human being wants to connect with others. When you invite people in, they are more than likely to accept! Send out an invitation to a few neighbors or colleagues inviting them to bring their favorite game to your home for an evening, and it’s guaranteed to be a good time.

Bring your dog to a dog park.

We all know its true. Dog lovers love fellow dog lovers. Enjoy your time out at the park, and feel free to strike up a conversation with the person next to you! It could be as simple as giving them a compliment. We promise you’ll leave the park full of joy.

Take an art or cooking class.

Nothing brings people together like learning something new! By doing something like this on a quiet evening, not only will you gain a new skill- but maybe a friend or two!

We know that the winter months can be challenging, but the truth is that we’re in this together! When we choose to step out and make the most of these snowy months, they flash by before our eyes!

What steps are you going to take to bring a little joy and community into your life this month?
